Welsh National Opera's 2012 – 2014 programme was announced today in a press conference in London. David Pountney, WNO’s Chief Executive and Artistic Director, introduced the ambitious programme which includes eight new productions, a season exploring Bel Canto repertoire, and celebrations of the bi-centenary of Wagner’s birth.
David Pountney stressed the importance of risk taking and adventure, in spite of the economic challenges lying ahead. Themed seasons are at the heart of David's programming. He has said: "My hope is that you will come to see each of our seasons as an adventure in itself, in which the familiar is enhanced and enriched by its conjunction with the unfamiliar and in which your pleasure and enjoyment is broadened by being able to experience one work in the light of another."
