Michael Pollock

Vocal Consultant 2001 –2008

Michael Pollock began his musical education as a chorister in Rochester Cathedral. He later won a music scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford, and then went on to the Royal College of Music in London to study vocal accompaniment with Roger Vignoles.

During his time as Vocal Consultant, Michael coached all the Associate Artists (as well as many of the guest artists) on their opera and concert repertoire. He devised many concert programmes and coached and played for the Associate Artists in a wide range of recitals across Cardiff and the UK. In addition Michael was accompanist for many WNO Partnership Recitals and for a series of prestigious WNO Coutt’s Recitals in the UK and abroad.

Michael has accompanied many singers in recitals both in the UK and around the world, including Patricia Bardon, Neal Davies, Dame Anne Evans, Rebecca Evans, Nuccia Focile, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Katarina Karnéus, Juanita Lascarro, Christopher Maltman, John Mitchinson, Dennis O’Neill, Tom Randle, Bryn Terfel, Ailish Tynan, Janice Watson, Willard White and Guang Yang.

He has also acted as official accompanist for the Cardiff Singer of the World competition on three occasions. He has frequently broadcast on Radio 3 and his recordings include recital discs with Nuccia Focile and Rebecca Evans, together with a world-première recording of chamber pieces by Sir Michael Tippett.

In addition to his concert work Michael is a regular guest tutor at the National Opera Studio and the Royal Academy of Music. He is Vice-Chairman of the Kenneth Loveland Gift.
