Final performance of the Voluntary Chorus

14
December 1973

Touring to Swansea and Llandudno, and further afield to Manchester, Southampton, Birmingham, Peterborough, Sunderland and other English cities, made the logistics of getting the Voluntary Chorus to the various venues very hit-or-miss. It was never known how many would turn up. In Liverpool, the bus arrived with only one bass on board. In Sunderland, a member of the Voluntary Chorus in Aida, who was supposed to lead in an army, was followed on by a single soldier. The Voluntary Chorus had outlived its usefulness, and made its final appearance in a performance of Don Carlos in Southampton in December 1973.
