Geraint Talfan Davies is Chairman of Welsh National Opera, a position he first held from 2000 to 2003 and then from 2006. He was Controller of BBC Wales from 1990-2000, a position that included responsibility for the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales.

Before that he spent 12 years in newspapers in Cardiff, Newcastle upon Tyne and London, and 12 years in ITV, first with HTV Wales and later as Director of Programmes with Tyne Tees Television. He is a former chairman of the Arts Council of Wales, and amongst the positions he has held in the arts sector, he has been Chairman of CBAT, the Arts and Regeneration Agency, and a board member of the Artes Mundi International Visual Arts Prize, Wales Millennium Centre Ltd, and Sgrin. He is also vice chairman of the UK Committee of the European Cultural Foundation and a Trustee of the Media Standards Trust.
