  • Chief Executive and Artistic Director David Pountney

    David Pountney was born in Oxford in 1947. He was a choirboy in St. John’s College Choir, Cambridge, a trumpeter in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and directed nine operas while studying history and English at Cambridge University.

  • Bellingham, Peter

  • Managing Director Peter Bellingham

    Peter studied music at Winchester School of Art and the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester but quickly reached the conclusion that his career opportunities more likely lay in administration than performance. He developed basic admin skills during a year as sabbatical president of the students’ union prior to embarking on a career that now spans over 30 years.

  • Koenigs, Lothar

  • Music Director Lothar Koenigs

    Born in Aachen, Lothar Koenigs studied piano and conducting at the Cologne Conservatory. During his student years he held the post of First Guest Conductor at the Orquesta Sinfonica de Chile. After graduating he was invited by Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa to conduct at Tanglewood Festival for three years. Although this collaboration offered him the chance of a rapid success, Koenigs decided he would follow a rather more traditional conducting career as Kapellmeister in several German opera houses.
