| About Us - CHORUS |
The Chorus of Welsh National Opera has forty members and became professional in 1968. Since then it has become internationally recognised as a world-class ensemble by both critics and audiences. WNO's fully dramatised production of Handel's oratorio, Jephtha, received rave reviews in the national press, particularly for the Chorus' performance. The Independent said ‘Handel's magnificent choruses fit the glorious WNO Chorus like a glove'. For a full up-to-date list of the Chorus, click here.
Over the last twenty years, the Chorus has performed a wide range of operas from the traditional repertoire such as Mozart, Verdi, Wagner and Puccini, and also from more contemporary composers such as Janacek and Tippett. They have also undertaken small-scale tours of rural venues throughout Wales and south-west England.
Members of the Chorus also have immense experience of working with children, adults and elderly people through WNO's work with schools and community groups through WNO MAX . Most members of the Chorus have active concert and operatic solo careers. The Chorus has performed in many major state events, including singing for HM The Queen as she opened the new Welsh Assembly. |
