Tenor Russell Thomas is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting vocal and dramatic talents on the international opera and concert scene, most recently as the First-Prize winner of the prestigious Competizione dell’Opera in Dresden.
Recent engagements include Tamino The Magic Flute (Metropolitan Opera; WNO); Sultan Zaide (Aix-en-Provence Festival; Vienna Festwochen; Barbican, London; Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival); Prince in John Adams’ A Flowering Tree (World première at Peter Sellars’ New Crowned Hope Festival in Vienna, Concertgebouw, Amsterdam; Berlin Philharmonic; Los Angeles Philharmonic; San Francisco Symphony; Perth International Festival; Tokyo Symphony Orchestra; Mostly Mozart Festival). Other opera engagements include Duke of Mantua Rigoletto (Arizona Opera); Steersman Der fliegende Holländer (Atlanta Opera); Mao Tse-Tung Nixon in China (Pittsburgh Symphony). Recent concert engagements include Walker’s Lilacs with Philadelphia Orchestra in both Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall; Tippett’s A Child of Our Time at Carnegie Hall.
Future engagements include Foresto/Uldino Attila, Steersman Der fliegende Holländer (Metropolitan Opera); Verdi Requiem (Basel Opera); returns to the Metropolitan Opera and debut with Oper Frankfurt, all in leading roles.
