David studied organ and singing at Royal Academy of Music. After working as a freelance organist, singer and conductor, he joined the Chorus of WNO, where roles included Captain / Zaretsky Eugene Onegin, Doctor Grenvil La traviata, Bertrand Iolanta, Sarastro The Magic Flute.
After studying at NOS David returned to WNO where he is currently an Associate Artist supported by the Chris Ball bursary and the first recipient of the Parry Family Bursary.
Roles for WNO include Colline La bohème, Zuniga Carmen, Bonze Madam Butterfly, Brander The Damnation of Faust, Bass The Seven Deadly Sins, Ferrando Il trovatore, Alidoro La Cenerentola, The King Aida, Lodovico Otello, Surin The Queen of Spades and title role The Marriage of Figaro.
Roles elsewhere include Banquo Macbeth, Zaccaria Nabucco, Alvise Badoero La Gioconda (Opera Holland Park); Donner Das Rheingold (Lucerne Festival).
Concert repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Creation, Elijah; Mozart’s and Brahms’ Requiem; Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 and Missa Solemnis; Verdi’s Requiem; Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius and The Apostles; Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle; Stanford’s Songs of the Fleet; Bach’s Mass in B minor, St John Passion, St Matthew Passion, Christmas Oratorio and numerous cantatas including Ich habe genug for solo bass.
Future plans include Escamillo Carmen, Nightwatchmen Die Meistersinger for WNO and his ROH debut singing Quinault Adriana Lecouvreur.
