English tenor, Barry Banks studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Opera Studio. Recent engagements include Duke of Mantua Rigoletto (English National Opera); Iago Otello (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées; Salzburg Festival); and performances as Flute A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Metropolitan Opera). Concert highlights include performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Other roles have included title role Mitridate, re di Ponto, Don Narciso Il Turco in Italia (Bayerische Staatsoper); Ernesto Don Pasquale (Royal Opera House); Count Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia (Metropolitan Opera); Idreno Semiramide at Teatro San Carlo, Naples and for his debut at Royal Danish Opera; Don Ramiro La Cenerentola for his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; Oreste Ermione for his debut at the Santa Fe Festival; Chevalier Belfiore and Count Libenskof Il viaggio a Reims for his debut at Teatro Communale di Bologna; and L’Astrologue Le Coq d’Or for his debut at Théâtre du Châtelet. In the role of Tamino Die Zauberflöte he has appeared in Salzburg, Leipzig and Brussels.
