Recent engagements: Tosca, Cavalleria rusticana, I pagliacci (Teatro alla Scala, Milan); Un ballo in maschera (La Monnaie); La fanciulla del West (Deutsche Oper); Luisa Miller (Opernhaus Zürich); Armida (Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro). Forthcoming engagements: Les Pêcheurs de Perles (Opernhaus Zürich), Nabucco (Lyric Opera of Chicago), La cena delle beffe (Teatro alla Scala, Milan); In Parenthesis, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci (Welsh National Opera). Born in Milan, he studied conducting at the city’s Conservatoire. He went on to study in Siena with Franco Ferrara and in Bologna with Vladmir Delman. He enjoys an international career and was Music Director of WNO from 1992 to 2001 and 2004 to 2008.
