Christine Rice studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. Roles include title role Carmen, Judith Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, Giulietta Les contes d’Hoffmann, Concepción L’heure espagnole, Maddalena Rigoletto, Ariadne The Minotaur, Miranda The Tempest (Royal Opera House); Arsace Partenope, Nerone Agrippina, Zenobia Radamisto, Marguerite The Damnation of Faust, Nicklausse The Tales of Hoffmann, Dorabella Così fan tutte (English National Opera); Béatrice Béatrice et Bénédict (l’Opéra Comique, Paris); Diana, Destino La Calisto (Grand Théâtre de Genève). She has also appeared at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Teatro Real Madrid, Seattle Opera, Opéra national de Bordeaux and Frankfurt Opera. Concert appearances include Verdi’s Requiem under Nézet-Séguin (Philadelphia Orchestra/Carnegie Hall, New York); Das Rheingold under Rattle; St Matthew Passion with Nelson (St Denis Festival); world premiere of Harbison’s Closer to my own Life with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (Carnegie Hall); Annio La clemenza di Tito under Mackerras, recorded for Deutsche Grammophon (Edinburgh Festival). Future engagements include Bradamante Alcina (The English Concert); Jenny Smith The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (ROH); a return to Glyndebourne Festival Opera; Mélisande Pelléas et Mélisande with Salonen (Chicago Symphony Orchestra); debut as Hansel Hansel and Gretel and Giulietta at the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
