David Kempster

Born in Chirk, North Wales, David Kempster studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. He joined English National Opera as a Principal Baritone
in 1998, where his many roles included Renato Masked Ball, Lescaut Manon Lescaut, Chen En Laiin the London premiere of Nixon in China, Conte di Luna Il trovatore and Teddy Foran in the world premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage’s opera TheSilver Tassie. David has returned for a number of projects including Escamillo Carmen, Sharpless Madam Butterfly, Agamemnon La Belle Hélène and Belcore The Elixir of Love. Roles with Welsh National Opera include Thoas Iphigénie en Tauride,Father Hansel und Gretel, Marcello La bohème, Iago Otello, Conte di Luna Il trovatore and title role Don Giovanni. He made his US debut with Dallas Opera as Sharpless Madam Butterfly and returned for Nottingham Roberto Devereux. He also sang Lescaut Manon Lescaut (Florida Grand Opera). Recent and future engagements include Iago Otello (Opera North); The Apostles with the Hallé and Mark Elder, Balstrode Peter Grimes (Aldeburgh Festival); Sharpless and Escamillo at the Royal Danish Opera; title role Nabucco (WNO).
