Elizabeth Atherton

Elizabeth Atherton studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Elizabeth created the roles of Eurydice and Medea in Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s operas The Corridor and The Cure to considerable critical acclaim.

Elizabeth has performed at the Royal Opera House, Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Aldeburgh Festival, Buxton Opera, Grange Park Opera and English Touring Opera, where her roles have included the Governess The Turn of the Screw, Helena A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Countess Almaviva The Marriage of Figaro, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte, Pamina The Magic Flute and Micaëla Carmen. Elizabeth’s concert highlights include Messiah (Paul McCreesh/St. Paul Chamber Orchestra), Beethoven’s 9th Symphony (Richard Farnes/BBC Symphony Orchestra) in Dubai, Handel’s Saul (Harry Christophers/Handel and Haydn Society Boston), Britten’s Les Illuminations (David Atherton/Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), Dvorak's Stabat Mater (Jac van Steen/Prague Symphony Orchestra) and song recitals and recordings with Iain Burnside, Malcolm Martineau and Roger Vignoles.
