Cecil Maria Stuarda
Gary Griffiths was a finalist in the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he won the Gold Medal award. At WNO, where he began as an Associate Artist, his roles include Guglielmo Così fan tutte, Masetto Don Giovanni, Claudio Béatrice et Bénédict, and Schaunard La bohème. Future operatic roles include Ned Keene Peter Grimes (Grange Park Opera); Figaro Le nozze di Figaro in New Zealand. Recent concerts include Berlioz Les Troyens with Valery Gergiev (London Symphony Orchestra); Mozart’s Requiem with Christoph Poppen (WNO Orchestra); Belshazzar’s Feast at the Barbican with Martyn Brabbins (Guildhall Symphony Orchestra). A committed recitalist, he has appeared this season in Llandudno, Beaumaris, Fishguard, Harrogate and St David’s Hall, Cardiff. In recording, he appears on Catrin Finch’s Lullabies CD for Deutsche Grammophon. At WNO Gary was the recipient of the WNO Chris Ball Bursary, the WNO Sir John Moores Award and the Elizabeth Parry Family Bursary, and was supported by the Joseph Strong Frazer Trust. He is a Samling Scholar and studies with Robert Dean.
