Meet WNO

Helen Greenaway

Mezzo

Helen read music at Leeds University and studied singing both privately and at the Royal Academy of Music.

Helen’s stage career started in the chorus of D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and performed the title role in Carmen for London City Opera on their tour of USA. Helen has always enjoyed making music in the community; prior to joining WNO she worked extensively for Music in Hospitals, giving countless concerts in hospitals, nursing and residential homes.

Helen feels she has been in so many exciting productions for WNO, and had so many rich musical experiences, it was too hard to choose a highlight. She did pick out something different from her usual day job instead – being asked to model for the poster artwork for WNO’s forthcoming production of Roberto Devereux: 'My friends in WNO Chorus have to do a double-take as they wonder why Elizabeth I looks so familiar!'

Away from WNO, Helen loves getting out into the countryside and considers herself fortunate to live in Cardiff where you don't have to travel too far to experience nature. She also plays the ukulele and guitar.
