Jörg Behr

Assistant / Revival Director Moses und Aron

Jörg Behr was born 1972 in Bremen. He graduated in 1997 with a Diploma
in Music Theatre Directing at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. From 1997 to 2004 he worked as assistant director and producer at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Stage director credits include Ariadne auf Naxos, Hyperion and Arianna (Theater Freiburg); Peter Grimes (Theater Aachen); Saul (Theater Bielefeld); Les Dialogues des Carmélites (Staatstheater Oldenburg); A Soldier’s Tale (Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach); Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Theater Osnabrück); Zaide (Hamburg); Così fan tutte (Biennale Bern). At Theater Augsburg Hindemith credits have included Cardillac, Euripides’ Helena and Meeting Dido, a combination of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Maderna’s Satyricon. Beyond that two world premieres of music theatre by composer Georg Graewe, Quicksilver (Semperoper Dresden) and Barbara Strozzi or the avantgarde of love (Bonn and Lucerne). In 2003 he was awarded the Goetz-Friedrich-Preis for Hyperion as the best emerging director. He
was a fellow at the Akademie Musiktheater Heute (Deutsche Bank Stiftung), the Akademie Schloss Solitude and at Forum Neues Musiktheater Stuttgart. Since 2009 he has also taught at the Leopold Mozart Institute (University of Augsburg) and the Hochschule für Musik in Saarbrücken.
