Jossi Wieler

Director Moses und Aron

Jossi Wieler was born in Kreuzlingen (Switzerland) and studied Stage Directing at Tel Aviv University. His first production was staged at Habima National Theatre in 1979. He was assistant director at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, 1980 to 1982, and afterwards staged his own productions in Heidelberg, Bonn, Stuttgart, Basel, Hamburg, Zürich, Munich and Salzburg.
In 1994 he was awarded ‘Stage Director of the Year’ for his production
of Elfriede Jelinek’s Wolken.Heim. At Stuttgart Opera, Jossi has worked
 with Sergio Morabito on many productions, including La clemenza di Tito, L’incoronazione di Poppea, Siegfried, Don Carlo, Norma, Moses und Aron, Una cosa rara, La Juive, Katya Kabanova, Alcina (also at Edinburgh International Festival; Budapest Spring Festival; San Francisco Opera; Opéra de Lyon);
 La sonnambula, Die glückliche Hand/Osud, L’Écume des Jours, Ariadne auf Naxos. Other engagements include Un ballo in maschera (Staatsoper unter den Linden, Berlin); Rusalka (Salzburg Festival; Royal Opera House). Their productions of Ariadne auf Naxos, 2001 (Salzburg Festival); Doktor Faust, 2005 (San Francisco / Stuttgart co-production); Alceste, 2006; La sonnambula, 2012 were all awarded ‘Production of the Year’. In 2002 and 2012 Jossi and Sergio were elected ‘Directorial Team of the Year’. Since 2011/2012 Jossi has held the position of Intendant of Stuttgart Opera.
