Madeleine Shaw studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and National Opera Studio supported by English National Opera. Solo performances include Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Dream of Gerontius, Bach’s B Minor Mass, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music (dinburgh International Festival); Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Tippett’s A Child of our Time (Sage Gateshead); St Matthew Passion in Cambridge. Engagements include Duruflé’s Requiem and Haydn’s Nelson Mass (Royal Scottish National Orchestra); Mozart’s Requiem (Spain), Debussy’s La damoiselle élue (BBC National Orchestra of Wales); Verdi’s Requiem (Ely and Gloucester Cathedral); Messiah (Norway; Oviedo Cathedral, Spain; Royal Festival Hall); The Three Cornered Hat (BBC NOW); Wellgunde Götterdämmerung, Glagolitic Mass (the Hallé Orchestra); Emilia Otello (BBC Philharmonic). Recent roles include Siegrune Die Walküre, Wellgunde (Opera North); Rossweisse Die Walküre (Royal Opera House); Mercedes and performances of Britten’s Death in Venice (ENO; Holland Festival). Concert engagements include Messiah in Edinburgh and for Manchester Camerata; Giovanna Rigoletto with the LSO at the Barbican. Recent BBC Proms appearances include She-Ancient The Midsummer Marriage with BBC Symphony Orchestra; Flower maiden / Second Squire / Voice from Above Parsifal with the Hallé Orchestra. Subsequent engagements include Magdalene Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg for ENO.
