Meet WNO

Michael Clifton-Thompson

Tenor

Michael studied singing with Irene Livingstone and later with Freddie Coz at the Royal Northern College of Music. Prior to joining WNO, he worked in local government and as a police officer.

Michael’s personal highlights with WNO are many and varied, recording with world-class singers including Pavarotti and Joan Sutherland and concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and a joint concert with the BBC Singers at the Alter Oper in Frankfurt conducted by Georg Solti. He also reflects: 'We once lived in Paris for a month when rehearsing and performing Beethoven's Leonora and Fidelio at the Champs Elysees Theatre. A wonderful opportunity to experience Parisian life during the lead up to Christmas.'

Away from WNO, Michael plays squash for a local team, enjoys open water swimming, skiing, cycling and walking.
