Sergio Morabito

Director Moses und Aron

Sergio Morabito was born in Frankfurt/Main. As a student of Applied Theatre Studies at Gießen University he worked as assistant to directors and dramaturgs at Frankfurt Opera, including Der Ring des Nibelungen with Michael Gielen, Ruth Berghaus, Axel Manthey and Klaus Zehelein. At Stuttgart Opera he has worked on many productions with Jossi Wieler including L’italiana in Algeri, Alcina, Poppea, Siegfried, Norma, Moses und Aron, La Juive, Katya Kabanova, Ariadne auf Naxos (Salzburg Festival), Doktor Faust (also in San Francisco), Alceste,
La sonnambula. Their productions of Ariadne auf Naxos, 2001 (Salzburg);
Doktor Faust, 2005 (San Francisco / Stuttgart co-production); Alceste, 2006;
La sonnambula, 2012 were all awarded ‘Production of the Year’. Other engagements include Norma with the ensemble of the Novaya Opera (Moscow); Pelléas et Mélisande (Hannover State Opera; Wiener Festwochen; Edinburgh International Festival; Stuttgart Opera); Mozart‘s Lucio Silla and a Mozart/Da Ponte-Cycle (Nederlandse Opera); Rusalka (Salzburg; Royal Opera House). In 2002 and 2012 Sergio and Jossi were elected ‘Directorial Team of the Year’. Since 2011/2012 Sergio has held the position of Chief Dramaturg at Stuttgart Opera. In 2012/2013 Sergio and Jossi staged L’Écume des jours by Edison Denisov, and Ariadne auf Naxos.
