Sian Meinir is from Dolgellau, Gwynedd. She studied at Bangor University and the Royal Academy of Music. Awards include Blue Ribband Award, 2001 and the Susan Chilcott 2006/2007 Scholarship. She was also honoured to become a Royal Philharmonic Young Artist. Engagements include Baba the Turk The Rake’s Progress, Sorceress Dido and Aeneas (Opera Factory); Old Lady Candide, Zita Gianni Schicci (Batignano Festival); Page Salome, Bridesmaid Le nozze di Figaro, Orphan Der Rosenkavalier, soloist in world premiere of Twyla Tharp’s ballet Mr Worldly Wise (Royal Opera House Chorus). Sian joined the WNO Chorus in 2003 where roles have included Margret Wozzeck, Annina La traviata, Inez Il trovatore, Giovanna Rigoletto, Mayor’s Wife Jenu ̊fa, Awen Gair ar Gnawd, Kate Pinkerton Madam Butterfly, Suzuki for WNO Creative, recording of Zena Katya Kabanova (Chandos). Concert engagements include Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Ruckert Lieder (CCSO); Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben, Maria Stuart Lieder (Bangor Cathedral); Wagner’s Wesendonck (Southwark Cathedral, also with CDPO at Dinas Powys, and for WNO Development at Wales Millennium Centre); recital tour of South Africa; Elgar’s The Kingdom (Monteverdi Singers); Mendelssohn’s Elijah (Llanelli); Dvoˇrák’s Requiem (Newport Philharmonic Choir); Condensed Carmen with vocal quartet PEDW4R. Sian is honoured to be a National Eisteddfod Vocal Adjudicator.
