Born in Liverpool, studied at Ysgol Dewi Sant, Tyddewi, then Manchester
University and the Royal Northern College of Music. He has created roles
in many contemporary works including Thomas Adès’s The Tempest
(Royal Opera House); Tan Dun’s Orchestral Theatre II Re, Marco Polo and
Tea (Suntory Hall‚ Tokyo); Barry’s The Triumph of Beauty and Deceit The
Importance of Being Earnest, The Intelligence Park, Beethoven, Schott &
Sons, Mainz, Ruders’ The Handmaid’s Tale (ENO). Recent engagements
include Flint Billy Budd (Netherlands Opera); Hobson Peter Grimes (ROH;
Aldeburgh Beach); Ludwig van Beethoven in Gerald Barry’s Schott & Sons
Mainz (National Chamber Choir of Ireland); Commandant From The House of
The Dead The Adventures of Pinocchio (Opera North); Ferrando Il trovatore,
Méphistophélès Faust; Ashby La fanciulla del West (Danish National Opera);
Stromminger La Wally (Opera Holland Park). Current and future plans include
Baron Ochs Der Rosenkavalier (Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow); Hobson (La Scala,
Milan); Daland The Flying Dutchman, Lady Bracknell The Importance of Being
