Tanya McCallin

Designer

Tanya McCallin was born in Cambridge and studied at the Central School of Art and Design. She has designed extensively for opera and theatre worldwide, her early work including designs for The Barber of Seville (ENO). She made her debut at the Royal Opera House debut in 2001 with David McVicar’s productions of Macbeth (Kirov Opera) and Rigoletto, later returning to design The Marriage of Figaro and Carmen. She has designed several acclaimed productions in collaboration with McVicar, including La Traviata (Scottish Opera, WNO, Geneva, Barcelona and Madrid), Manon (ENO, Houston, New Zealand, Dallas, Barcelona and Chicago), The Turn of the Screw (Mariinsky Theatre, ENO and Madrid), Macbeth (Kirov Opera, The Met & Kennedy Centre) and Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Salzburg Festival) and costume designs for Der Rosenkavalier (Scottish Opera, Opera North, ENO) and Così fan tutte (Strasbourg, Scottish Opera).

Recent engagements: set and costumes Sweeney Todd (Theåtre du Chåtelet and San Francisco) and costumes for La Traviata (Bolshoi).
