Following a successful international dance career, Maxine Braham has choreographed opera, spoken theatre and pure dance. Her work includes Un ballo in maschera (Metropolitan Opera, New York); Billy Budd, Peter Grimes (winner of South Bank Best Opera 2010 and Olivier finalist), Katya Kabanova and Luisa Miller (for David Alden at English National Opera; Vlaamse Opera; Warsaw; Opéra de Lyon; Lisbon); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (for Claudia Solti at Mariinsky Theatre with Gergiev, winner of the Golden Soffit Best Opera Award); Tannhäuser and Otello (The Royal Opera House; Dallas Grand Opera); Idomeneo, Nabucco, Madam Butterfly and Macbeth (winner of The Manchester Evening News Best Opera 2008, Joint Winner of the TMA Best Opera 2008) for Tim Albery; Shadows of Gobustan (National Ballet of Azerbaijan at Unesco World Heritage Cave Site); Manon Lescaut (Teatro Regio di Parma); Susannah (winner of The Irish Times Theatre Awards Best Opera 2006); Die Prinzessin Brambilla and La Vestale (Wexford Festival Opera); No Mean City, Cinderella and Desire Under the Elms (Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow); Armide and Candide (Buxton Festival Opera); La traviata (Malmö Opera); Romeo e Giulietta del Villaggio and Carmen (Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and Lisbon, winner of The Italian Music Critics’ Awards 2005); Rigoletto, The Marriage of Figaro, Katya Kabanova and Eugene Onegin (Scottish Opera).
