Deborah gained her BMus at the University of Leeds where she directed The Marriage of Figaro. She developed her knowledge of the repertory, first through vocal coaching and accompanying singers at the University of North Texas, working as an assistant director on UNT’s productions of L’Egisto and La bohème, then training as a stage manager at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In 2009 she co-founded Opera Ddraig and directed The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro. In 2011 she helped form Shadow Opera, in partnership with composer Tom Floyd, to create and direct new operas, The Nightingale and The Rose and The Shadow of the Wave, which was revived for the Tête-à-Tête Festival, 2012. Deborah has directed L’enfant et les sortilèges and opera scenes (RWCMD); The Bear (La Mortella Ischia); The Fairy Queen (Benslow Baroque Opera); and scenes as part of WNO Open House. She has assistant directed for WNO, Mid Wales Opera, Buxton Opera Festival, Benslow Baroque Opera, Bury Court Hall, British Youth Opera, RWCMD and for Splash (Royal Festival Hall). Future projects include Noye’s Fludde (Worcester and Gloucester Cathedrals); opera scenes (RWCMD); and in 2014 assistant director Acis and Galatea (Mid Wales Opera).
