Conductor Anna Bolena
Born in Yorkshire, Andrew read music at Clare College, Cambridge, before joining the music staff of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, subsequently becoming Chorus Master at WNO. On leaving, he made his debut at English National Opera with The Magic Flute; since conducting Madam Butterfly, Don Giovanni and a new production of Don Pasquale. Recent engagements include Die Fledermaus, La bohème and La traviata (WNO); Albert Herring (New National Theatre, Tokyo); Carmina Burana (Philharmonia); concerts with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Beethoven 9th Symphony (RPO) and WNO Orchestra; Aida for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall. As Artistic Director of the Buxton Festival, operas conducted included Maria di Rohan, Mignon, Luisa Miller and the award-winning Roberto Devereux.
International engagements include First Conductor at Oper Köln and frequent guest appearances with the Royal Danish Opera. He has also been Music Director of English Touring Opera; has conducted many performances for Chelsea Opera Group, most recently Adriana Lecouvreur and Medea; and conducted many major symphony orchestras including the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, the City of London Sinfonia, the Ulster Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and BBC Concert Orchestra; also Rotterdam Philharmonic, Aalborg & Odense Symphony Orchestras, Denmark. Future engagements include aria concerts with Joseph Calleja and Carmina Burana (Royal Albert Hall); Cristina, Regina di Svezia (Wexford Festival).
