Boris Kudlička

Boris Kudlička is a Slovakian set designer. He trained at Bratislava Academy
of Music. Opera designs include Madam Butterfly, King Roger, Otello,
Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, La bohème, Orfeo ed Euridice, La traviata,
Turandot, Der fliegende Holländer, Manon Lescaut (Teatr Wielki, Warsaw; La
Monnaie, Brussels; Staatsoper Berlin; Mariinsky, St Petersburg; Washington
National Opera; LA Opera), directed by M. Trelinski; Death in Venice, The
Tempest, Lear (Frankfurt Opera); Devils of Loudun (Royal Danish Opera);
Simon Boccanegra, Tannhäuser (Opera du Rhin, Strasbourg) were directed
by K. Warner or by D. Duesing for Il viaggio a Reims, The Rape of Lucrezia,
Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Frankfurt Opera; Nationale Reisopera, Enschede;
Stadttheater, Bern; Staatsoper Berlin); The Magic Flute (Linz; Tokyo). He
designed sets for kinkakuji and Hoichi with Japanese theatre director Amon
Miyamoto (Kanagawa Arts Center Yokohama; Lincoln Festival, New York).
Boris’s designs have received major awards such as the Gloria Artis Medal for
merit to culture from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage and
the gold medal at the Prague Quadrennial 2007. He teaches stage design at
the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
