Sir John Tomlinson awarded Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal

9 Mai 2014

British opera star Sir John Tomlinson will be awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Gold Medal - one of classical music's highest honours. The RPS described Sir John as a 'great British Wagnerian' and praised him as an 'international treasure' whose 'magnificent bass voice has thrilled audiences around the world in opera and in concert for more than 40 years'.

WNO Chief Executive & Artistic Director pays tribute saying 'A huge round of applause and many, many congratulations to Sir John Tomlinson who has just been awarded a gold medal for his lifetime achievements in music by the very prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society. Everyone at WNO is thrilled for John, and particularly delighted that we are presenting him in the next few weeks on one of his leading roles: Moses in Moses und Aron. This will be a superb opportunity to experience the power and compelling dramatic presence of this great artist'.

Sir John will appear as Moses in WNO's forthcoming production of Moses und Aron. This is the first time Moses und Aron will be performed in the UK since 1976.

The medal will be presented to the bass singer at this year's RPS music awards on Tuesday (13 May).
