Fact and Fiction: Packwood House

WNO Extra

This autumn we are uncovering the Fact and Fiction behind the Tudor phenomenon. In partnership with the National Trust, our Fact and Fiction events offer insight into Donizetti’s operatic imagining into what happened in the Tudor Court, and unpick the fact amongst the fiction.

Coinciding with our autumn tour, our Fact and Fiction events have taken place in a selection of beautiful National Trust properties and audiences have been experiencing costumed operatic performances and historical perspectives from a selection of speakers.

Starting at Tredegar House, Newport, Historian Anna Whitelock and Novelist Suzannah Dunn enthusiastically put Donizetti’s operas into historical context. Fact and Fiction then visited Tudor Merchants House in a sunny, but windy, Tenby. The beautiful Donizetti arias filled the small Tudor house and it was bought to life through the intimate hour long performance.

Audience feedback so far: "Jon Gower’s stylish introduction, the beautiful and entrancing performances by Lynn Boudreau and Caryl Hughes, the accomplished accompaniment by Jamie Akers on the lute, and the fine historical talk by Anna Whitelock and the amusing and engaging exposition by Susannah Dunn, were all absolutely brilliant. This was a gem that illuminated our WNO weekend" – Patrick and Christine Riley audience members.

This week we head to Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton in Birmingham. Join us to learn more about The Tudor Operas in the beauty of a National Trust property.
