Timothy Robinson was a choral scholar at New College, Oxford; after completing his degree in Music he continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He has appeared in concert throughout the United Kingdom, including the BBC Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Scottish Chamber, Philharmonia and Halle Orchestras and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under conductors including Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Mark Elder and Sir Simon Rattle and at the Aldeburgh Festival and the BBC Promenade Concerts. Abroad his concerts have taken him to the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus, Vienna, the Orchestre de Lyon the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (and Daniel Harding), the Finnish Radio Symphony and Bayerische Rundfunk Orchestras and his debut with both the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras under Sir Simon Rattle
His many recordings include Vaughan Williams under Sir Roger Norrington for Decca; he has recorded Beethoven choral works under Chung and Beethoven Folk Songs with Malcolm Martineau for Deutsche Grammophon; Bernstein’s 'Wonderful Town' and Szymanowski’s ‘Harnasie’ under Sir Simon Rattle for EMI; ‘Alcina’ with William Christie for Erato and the Mozart Requiem with Sir Charles Mackerras for Linn.
He was a member of the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, where he has sung Jupiter under Mackerras, Ferrando under Sir Colin Davis, Kudrjash, Vasek The Bartered Bride and Froh Das Rheingold under Bernard Haitink and Vasek and Martinu’s The Greek Passion under Mackerras. He has sung Jupiter at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Mozart’s Tito for Welsh National Opera and the Bavarian State Opera, and Kudrjash Katja Kabanova, Jacquino Fidelio, Janek The Makropulos Case, Steersman Tristan und Isolde and Grimoaldo Rodelinda for the Glyndebourne Festival. He made his debut at the Paris Opera in Turandot, returning for Alcina. Recent opera engagements include Male Chorus The Rape of Lucretia, Lysander A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Peter Quint The Turn of the Screw for English National Opera, Peter Quint in Salzburg and Kudrjash in Lyon.
Since his first Captain Vere for English National Opera he has sung the role for the Hamburg Opera and in Bilbao and sang his first Aschenbach Death in Venice in Salzburg and Peter Quint for both Leipzig Opera and English National Opera.
Recent engagements include Walther Tannhauser at the Royal Opera House, 3rd Jew Salome with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Rattle in Salzburg and at the Baden-Baden Festival and Bailio Le Nozze di Figaro at English National Opera. Forthcoming engagements include Basilio and Curzio for Welsh National Opera and 3rd Jew and for the Royal Opera House.
