Awen is a tattoo artist who inscribes words on flesh. Anwar spreads the word of God as a translator of the Bible into different languages.

When plans for a new casino threaten the existence of a church and the community who depend on it, these two very different people are united by their love of language in a struggle for survival.

A specially formed community choir and soloists from the world-class Chorus of Welsh National Opera present the first ever performances of Gair ar Gnawd, a spectacular new oratorio in Welsh by composer Pwyll ap Sion and poet Menna Elfyn. Gair ar Gnawd is set today, a story of meeting of minds, in a community making difficult choices between past and present. This staged oratorio movingly affirms the need to embrace faith, heritage, language and culture in Wales today.

Perfformiadau cyntaf erioed

Oratorio newydd bwysig yn Gymraeg

Cerddoriaeth Pwyll ap Sion
Geiriau Menna Elfyn

Ymunwch â’ch cwmni opera cenedlaethol am ddigwyddiad o bwys yn y gwanwyn eleni.

Artist tatwˆ yw Awen sy’n llunio geiriau ar gnawd. Mae Anwar yn lledu gair Duw fel un sy’n cyfieithu’r Beibl i wahanol ieithoedd.

Pan fydd cynlluniau ar gyfer casino newydd yn bygwth parhad eglwys a’r gymuned sy’n dibynnu arni, mae’r ddau gymeriad gwahanol
iawn yn dod at ei gilydd drwy eu hoffter o iaith yn eu brwydr i oroesi.

Bydd côr cymunedol wedi ei greu’n arbennig ac unawdwyr o blith Corws bydenwog Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru yn cyflwyno’r perfformiadau cyntaf erioed o Gair ar Gnawd, oratorio odidog arbennig gan y cyfansoddwr Pwyll ap Sion a’r bardd Menna Elfyn. Mae Gair ar Gnawd wedi’i gosod yn y byd cyfoes, yn adrodd hanes dau gymeriad gwahanol yn cwrdd, mewn cymuned sy’n gwneud penderfyniadau anodd rhwng y gorffennol a’r presennol. Mae’r llwyfaniad o’r oratorio hon yn ein cyffroi wrth gadarnhau’r angen am gofleidio ffydd, treftadaeth, iaith a diwylliant yng Nghymru heddiw.

Cefnogir gwaith cymunedol ac addysgol OCC yng Ngogledd Cymru gan Hyrwyddwyr Cymunedol OCC, grwˆp o fusnesau ac unigolion lleol. Am fanylion ewch i wno.org.uk/champions.
