Get Involved

Welsh National Opera runs a large range of participation projects, which give you the chance to come and get involved with opera through the WNO MAX department.

WNO MAX began in 2001 with a large-scale commission for school children in Merthyr Tydfil - Katerina - which involved the company's Chorus and Orchestra. After this modest beginning, it has worked with communities throughout Wales and England providing opportunities to engage with WNO, opera and creativity. The work it creates is now an important and core part of the Welsh National Opera identity.

How can I get Involved?

There is a huge range of projects taking place - here are just a few of the ways you can get involved with WNO

WNO Singing Club

The WNO Singing Club is for young people aged 10 to 14 years old and aims to engage the group with singing skills, offer them performance expereinces and help them get to know about opera. There are currently two groups running on Saturday mornings and afternoons.

Welsh National Youth Opera

Welsh National Youth Opera auditions take place every year for a performance project, which is performed in July. The age range is 16 to 25 years. There are a wide range of opportunities, from singing and performing, playing in the orchestra, stage managing, making costumes, learning make-up and wigs skills, assistant directing, to training to be a repetiteur.

Community Choir

WNO offers various community choir opportunities from community singing days to performing in a main stage concert with the chorus and orchestra. Each project is recruited for through taster sessions or auditions depending on the project. Anyone from aged 16 upwards can come and sing with us.
