Audio Description

Audio Description creates vivid spoken images for blind and partially sighted audiences members, allowing them to capture fully the visual aspects of a performance. This is relayed through an easy to use and lightweight headset worn by the listener.

Delivered live and simultaneously with the performance, the Audio Describer provides a visual description of the action, facial expressions and body language. They guide the listener through new scenes, costumes and the relationship and positioning of the characters. The style of the production is also highlighted through description of lighting, locations, atmosphere, and mood.

Pre-performance Notes
Please take your seats 15 minutes before the performance starts if you would like to hear pre-performance notes read live by the Audio Describer.

These cover the background of the production, description of the set (including colours, size, texture, and positioning of items on stage), introductions to the main characters (including who is playing the role, what they look like, and what they are wearing), a brief synopsis of the plot, and a summary of each act.

Touch Tours
For most Audio Described performances a free Touch Tour where you can go on stage is available.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour - it is advisable that you wear sensible shoes as it is a requirement when on stage and backstage.
