WNO MAX - The Boy Who Went to the West Wind

This piece is a one-day 'wind-themed' project which introduces and explores the sound worlds of wind instruments and the voice. The workshop is based on a specially commissioned participatory piece aimed at 8-11 year olds. The story tells of the adventures of a boy who is carried off by the wind to mythical lands. The piece is for three wind players (playing nine wind instruments) soprano and children's group. Small school groups work with the musicians to explore 'windy' themes within the story and develop, create and rehearse a section to contribute to the piece using the voice or other wind instruments. The Boy Who Went To The West Wind toured to Swansea, Bristol, Birmingham and Liverpool during the Autumn season.
