WNO MAX - City Songs

City Songs
City Songs is an exuberant song cycle about Birmingham, performed by 200 young people from Rookery, Paganel, Bournville and Cotteridge Primary Schools singing with the full Orchestra of Welsh National Opera.

Combining music with visual arts and poetry, extremely enthusiastic youngsters from different cultural backgrounds are working together between February and June this year to create their own personal vision of Birmingham and articulating their sense of citizenship.

The creative team including librettist Claire Williamson, composer Karen Wimhurst, director Orit Azaz and students from Walsall Academy with the help of Reel Access, have weaved together their thoughts and dreams to give their personal vision of Birmingham.

The project is a collaboration between WNO, Birmingham Hippodrome, Birmingham City Council, Mercers Trust, Walsall Academy and Reel Access ( who are producing the visual elements).

City Songs will be performed at the Birmingham Hippodrome on 21 June. Performances are at 1pm and 7pm. Box Office Tel: 0870 730 1234
