Welsh National Opera presents "A Marvellous Medicine"
Tuesday 10 July 10:30am & 1:30pm
A Marvellous Medicine is a large-scale performance piece for full orchestra and large children's chorus. A song-cycle lasting 50 minutes, based on poetry by children's favourite writer Roald Dahl, the piece presents a exciting opportunity for more than 200 school children from Cardiff to sing with the world-class Orchestra of Welsh National Opera. A Marvellous Medicine is composed by award-winning Belfast-born Brian Irvine and is inspired by the whimsical writings of Roald Dahl, with the lyrics coming from Dirty Beasts, one of his many collections of poetry for young people. Through song, the performers will tell the stories of an array of mischievous beasts, including a vile crocodile, a nasty scorpion, a flying cow, a neglected anteater and a vengeful pig. Irvine's music is energetic, harmonically vibrant and full of wit and character. The performance is in partnership with St David's Hall, and will open their Welsh Proms season as the Primary Prom.
