Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

View A Different Opera

Supported by WNO's Meistersinger Syndicate

Twenty-four hours in the life of a city. A meditation on the transformative power of art. A comedy. A celebration of young love. Wagner’s monumental Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg is all this and everything else besides.

Any production of this opera is a major event - in WNO’s new production Bryn Terfel makes his role debut as Hans Sachs, the shoemaker and poet who is at its very heart. Renowned for his performances of German opera, WNO’s Music Director Lothar Koenigs will conduct. Richard Jones returns to WNO to direct this opera for the first time. His previous three productions for the company, Hansel and Gretel, The Queen of Spades and Wozzeck have all won major awards and have been critically praised.
