Dr Francesco Izzo on Rossini
31 July 2014
Ahead of our "Liberty or Death!" autumn season, Dr Francesco Izzo guides us through Rossini’s William Tell and Moses in Egypt.
Dr Izzo is a Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Southampton and teaches undergraduate courses in music theory, Italian opera, music and society, and the musical expression of meaning and feeling.
Here, Dr Izzo writes passionately in a trio of compelling essays. He describes Moses in Egypt as ‘truly prophetic’ and William Tell ‘signalling the dawn of a new age for nineteenth-century opera.’
