BBC 3 has announced the winner of the nation's favourite aria.

A survey conducted saw Henry Purcell beating composers such as Mozart, Wagner and Puccini to the top spot with an aria from Dido and Aeneas - When I am laid in earth.

Other popular arias were Dove Sono from The Marriage of Figaro, Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde, and The Queen of the Night's second aria from The Magic Flute.
