Young talent inspired by WNO artists
As the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera begin their Spring Residency at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama this week, young artists and composers get the chance to work with the professionals.
Today, young artists from the National Opera Studio will give a lunchtime recital of selected works, before joining WNO's orchestra on Friday evening for a gala performance of opera excerpts from Puccini, Mozart, Verdi and more. The National Opera Studio works to identify young talent with the prospect of becoming principal artists in the future.
Tomorrow evening, Sinfonia Newydd, a student-led initiative to perform new music, will be joined in their concert 'A Journey to Szentendre...' by WNO's principal cellist Rosie Biss to perform Metamorphosis, a piece by young composer David Harrington. David has spoken of Rosie Biss's involvement, saying: "It is an utter privilege to have a professional musician of such calibre premiering my work."
The WNO Brass section and WNO Associate Artist Gary Griffiths will also be performing during the residency. For more information on WNO's Spring Residency at RWCMD and to book, please check their full listings.
