Welsh National Opera picked up an award at last night’s (13 May) Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Music Awards at The Dorchester Hotel, London. The RPS Music Awards are the highest recognition for live classical music and musical excellence in the United Kingdom.
Welsh National Opera was victorious in the category of Opera and Music Theatre for their 2013 productions Lulu, Lohengrin and Paul Bunyan. This announcement follows Welsh National Opera's recent success at the TMA Awards for these same productions in October 2013.
British opera star Sir John Tomlinson was also honoured at The RPS Music Awards, receiving the (RPS) Gold Medal - one of classical music's highest honours. Sir John will appear as Moses in Welsh National Opera's forthcoming production of Moses und Aron. This is the first time Moses und Aron will be performed in the UK since 1976.
BBC Radio 3 will broadcast a programme devoted to the Awards Winners on Sunday 18 May at 10pm.
