Costumes worn by Bryn Terfel, Lesley Garrett and Dennis O’Neill are among the thousands of garments in Welsh National Opera’s costume stores, which are being offered for hire for the first time.
Packed away for many years the creations that will not be revived by the company are now available for hire.
Many were created by some of theatre’s top designers including Maria Björnson, who also designed the original West End production of the Phantom of the Opera and Sue Blaine (Rocky Horror Show).
All of the garments are bespoke hand made theatrical costumes and whole outfits from top to toe can be hired, together with accessories: gloves, hats, handbags – even the ruffs for Tudor outfits can be supplied.
Among the period outfits available for hire are Medieval, Victorian, Edwardian even some more daring costumes from some of our less traditional productions; including mouse costumes, complete with ears from Die Fledermaus, and Madonna style corsets and padlocks from Count Ory.

Judith Russell, Touring Wardrobe Manager said: "All of the garments are hand made theatrical costumes, many of which have been designed and created for a specific opera production. Some are painstakingly accurate to their period and others have taken hours of work to create, particularly the beaded and embroidered gowns.
"Some of the older period costumes are quite complicated to piece together correctly with panniers and undergarments - so we are offering to hire the services of a specialist dresser if our clients are unsure how they should be worn and put together.
"This is a unique collection of clothing and we hope it will attract attention from not only the entertainment industry but from companies who would like to put an unusual twist on their corporate events."
