Commissioned by Welsh National Opera, The Sacrifice world premièred at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff in 2007, and for the first time can be heard on CD.

Directed by Katie Mitchell and with a libretto by award-winning poet Michael Symmons, The Sacrifice tells the story of a ruler's ultimate sacrifice to safeguard the future of his war weary, faction-ridden country. The CD features the original cast; Christopher Purves (Wozzeck, Falstaff, WNO) Peter Hoare (Wozzeck, Hansel and Gretel, Jenufa, WNO) Lisa Milne, Leigh Melrose, Sarah Tynan and is conducted by Anthony Negus.
