A Street Songs Project supported by
Street Songs is a year long programme of activity aimed at capturing the rich seam of stories and voices of the valleys. Welsh National Opera is working across the South Wales Valleys with local people of all ages and backgrounds to turn your stories and life experiences into song and bring opera into the open.
Songs For Our Age is the second project in WNO's year long 'Street Songs' programme engaging valleys communities in singing and songwriting.
A collaborative project exploring the experiences and lives of two very different groups in Tredegar - elderly residents of the Cartref Aneurin Bevan residential home, and young people from the Kidz R Us choir.
The creative team engaged with over 20 residents in their 70's and 80's, some of whom are living with dementia, to create lyrics for songs and start to compose parts of the melodies. The Kidz R Us choir, aged 7 - 39 will then finish the composition for these songs as well as writing and composing their own songs. The finished performance will celebrate the stories and voices of both these Tredegar generations, and be performed by Kidz R Us in the streets of Tredegar, as well as a private performance for the residents within the home, and a second public performance on the Tesco Stage at the WMC in Cardiff.
