Craig Yates: Chord and Board

We are going to record the rhythm sections first – drums, bass, guitars and piano. I sit in the studio with James, the engineer and record a vocal soundtrack for them to play along too. The rest of the singers are in the coffee shop – I'm a bit jealous, a cuppa and a bacon sandwich would go down very well!

11.45am I record the last of my guide vocals and rush to the toilets to get changed in my OMA black outfit once again. I then go straight to the Senedd, where we are singing for the welcoming home celebrations for the welsh Olympians. We sing five songs on the steps to the senedd, amazing crowd of people. The open top bus then arrives with all the athletes on. We stand at watch as they are all presented to the crowd, and to the AM's. We lead the crowd in the national anthem to finish the event. I rush back to the recording studio, a little breathless and once again, hungry!

2pm I continue recording the tracks. I put the proper vocals down and play some percussion, which I really enjoy. I played orchestral percussion as a child up to the age of 18 and really miss it, so any opportunity to bang a drum now, I really relish! The tracks are really coming together. We finish recording two "live tracks" where everyone is in the studio together and we record everything we do. This gives a different feel to the recording. I stay till 5.30 to do some more percussion and one bit of singing that wasn't right earlier.

6pm OMA rehearsal in Diversions. We have a choreography session with Paul Domaine – the shows choreographer. Exhausting rehearsal – so much to learn, and so little time. It becomes apparent that we only have two rehearsals left before the final! The group songs are really tricky, thankfully our own songs aren't too bad, so we can spend most time on the group numbers. Finish at 10, bed by 11.15.
