Alan's debut play, Orange, was commissioned and produced by Sgript Cymru at the Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. He is currently under commission to Hijinx Theatre (Miss Brown To You to tour in March 2009), Sherman Cymru in Cardiff (where he is currently tutoring the theatre's new playwrights' course) and Pentabus Theatre.

He is also writing a new play for Radio 3's The Wire. Other work includes Brute which was staged at the Tristan Bates Theatre, London, by the Operating Theatre Company and projects with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain and Paines Plough.

Earlier this year he worked with the Welsh National Opera's MAX department and students from West Monmouth School, Pontypool, on a Songlines project culminating in performances at the Wales Millennium Centre's Tesco stage and Ystrad Sports Centre, and on the Surf Tailz project.
