Martin Rogers

Born in Taunton in April 1984, Martin began playing the cornet at primary school. After progressing to trumpet he was a member of the West of England Schools’ Symphonic Wind Band where he held the position of principal trumpet from 2000-2002 and the Bristol Schools’ Philharmonia where he was principal trumpet from 2001-2002.

Martin was awarded a place at the (now Royal) Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2002. His time there saw him perform with an array of college ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Brass Band, Big Band and the Wind Orchestra, often holding the principal seat. Martin was awarded a place on the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Brass Placement Scheme in his third year as an undergraduate.

Martin has embarked on a career as a freelance musician following the completion of his studies in September 2007. Playing engagements with a wide range of ensembles include concerts with the Bath Philharmonia, New Bristol Sinfonia, Absolute Brass (of which he is a founder member) and WNO Youth Opera orchestra in their production of ‘The Calling of Maisy Day’. He is also a member of the BBC National Chorus of Wales, regularly performing at some of the top concert venues across the country including St. David’s Hall, Symphony Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. He was recently selected to be a part of the chorus’ trip to Paris which included a concert with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.

Alongside his career as a performer, Martin teaches in a number of different capacities across south Wales and the south-west of England. These range from individual and small group teaching through to workshop leading and conducting youth ensembles and include his recent involvement with WNO MAX’s ‘Surf Tailz’ project.
