The Tudors

One dynasty

One composer

Three great operas

"The trilogy of three operas by Donizetti depicting incidents, invented or otherwise, from the lives of our Tudor monarchs, launches a series that will each autumn examine aspects of the genre known as Bel Canto – “beautiful singing”, in this inaugural season supported by the Peter Moores Foundation's ‘Swansong Project’.

All three works are dominated by powerful and strikingly emotional women, whose contrasted characters are beautifully illustrated in the energy and nuance of their very demanding vocal lines. Anne Boleyn, Queen Elizabeth and her deadly rival Mary Stuart come to life in virtuoso portraits of vocal display."
