Beethoven took nature in all its moods and guises in his Pastoral Symphony - its ageless growth and movement, its rustic simplicity and its terrifying storms. It is one of his greatest achievements and never fails to elate and move audiences the world over. It is heard next to Brahms' First Piano Concerto - one of the great virtuoso romantic concertos and a requiem in all but name following the tragic death of Schumann, the young Brahms' mentor.
