A Warm Welcome (Standard Chartered)

A Warm Welcome
To mark the official opening of their Global Headquarters in London, we designed a bespoke event for Standard Chartered Bank, incorporating their unique art collection.

As with all of our bespoke work, our first step was to meet with the event organiser to discuss the brief and understand what they wanted to achieve for their special celebration.

The opening of their global offices was a high profile event for the bank, where they would entertain their most prestigious clients and Sir John Major would perform the official opening ceremony.

Standard Chartered is a specialist financier operating predominantly in African, Asian and Far Eastern markets, and we wanted to create a performance that reflected their business as well as their requirements for the occasion.

The Bank’s corporate art collection includes an installation of a ‘Thai House’ in their new reception area, which we used as the backdrop to our performance of specially choreographed scenes from Puccini's Madam Butterfly.

Madam Butterfly is one of Welsh National Opera's most loved productions and has been enchanting audiences since it was first performed. On this occasion, our artistic team created an exclusive performance, to connect symbolically with the purpose of the opening ceremony.

Members of our renowned Ladies Chorus captivated the audience, blessing the ‘House’ with flower garlands and ribbons, which subtly reflected Standard Chartered’s corporate branding, and the performance was brought to a climax with a beautiful rendition of the Humming Chorus. Accompanied by members of our Orchestra, the opening ceremony was a memorable event.
